About Yodel

Yodel is one of the UK's largest independent parcel carriers, built around retailer and e-commerce home delivery. If you have ordered from a high-street or online store, there is a good chance the last leg is handled by Yodel, using a mix of local self-employed couriers and a national network of sortation centres.

Yodel also runs a network of collection stores, so a parcel that can't be delivered to the door may be routed to a nearby shop to pick up. Tracking is driven largely by the courier and store scans, which is why updates can be sparse in transit and then very detailed on the delivery day.

Yodel tracking number formats

A Yodel tracking number is a long alphanumeric reference - typically around 16 characters and often starting with the letters JD followed by digits. You will find it in the retailer's dispatch email or the Yodel delivery notification, not on a paper receipt.

Yodel tracking statuses explained

  • Received / we've got itYodel has taken the parcel from the retailer into its network and it's being sorted for onward travel.
  • Out for deliveryWith a local Yodel courier for today. You can often see an estimated arrival window and the driver's progress.
  • DeliveredHanded over at the address, or left in a safe place, with a neighbour, or at a collection store. The detail shows exactly where and often includes a photo.
  • DelayedThe parcel is running behind, usually due to volume or a routing hold. It normally moves to the next available delivery day.
  • AttemptedThe courier tried to deliver but couldn't. The parcel may be reattempted, left with a neighbour, or sent to a store for collection.

Yodel tracking FAQs

How do I track a Yodel parcel?

Enter your Yodel tracking number into the tracker above to see each update from Yodel receiving the parcel through to delivery. The number comes from the retailer's dispatch email or the Yodel notification, and on the day you can often see the driver's estimated arrival time.

What does a Yodel tracking number look like?

Yodel numbers are a long alphanumeric reference, typically around 16 characters and often starting with the letters JD followed by digits - for example JD0000123456789. You'll find it in the retailer's confirmation or the Yodel notification.

My Yodel parcel says delivered but I don't have it

Yodel drivers often leave parcels in a safe place, with a neighbour, or at a local collection store. Check the tracking detail and delivery photo for the exact location. At a business address it has usually gone to reception or the mailroom - check there before reporting it missing.

Why is my Yodel tracking not updating?

Tracking can pause while a parcel moves between sortation hubs or waits with a local courier, and it may jump straight to out for delivery. If there's no update well past the expected date, contact the retailer you ordered from, who can raise it with Yodel.

Can Traizr track Yodel deliveries into my building?

Yes. Once a Yodel courier drops a parcel at your reception or mailroom, Traizr takes over: staff scan the item in, the recipient is notified automatically, and a signature is captured on collection - a complete chain of custody from courier to recipient.

Common Yodel tracking problems

Left in a safe place or with a neighbour

Yodel couriers frequently leave parcels in a nominated safe place or with a neighbour. Check the tracking detail and delivery photo for the exact spot before assuming it's lost.

Delivered to a collection store

If the door couldn't be reached, the parcel may be routed to a local Yodel store. Take ID and the tracking number, and check the store's collection window.

Tracking not updating

Sparse in-transit scans are normal for Yodel - it can look stuck and then jump to out for delivery. If it's silent well past the expected date, ask the retailer to chase it.

Delivery delayed

High volumes or a routing hold can push a parcel to the next day. The status usually updates to a new delivery date without any action needed from you.

What happens after “Delivered”?

For a home address, a Yodel “delivered” scan - even to a safe place - is the end of the trail. For an office, university, hospital or apartment building, it's only halfway: the parcel has reached the front desk or post point, but it still has to travel from reception to the person it's actually for. That internal leg is invisible to Yodel - and with safe-place and store handoffs, it's easy for a parcel to slip through the cracks.

Traizr picks up exactly where the courier scan ends, giving your building the same visibility for the internal journey that Yodel gives for the external one.
